Three great clubs for collectors of diecast models and miniatures

Collecting diecast models and miniatures is an enjoyable, educational hobby popular with young and old generations alike. Collectibles, ranging from toy soldiers to miniature vintage vehicles such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, trains, ships, submarines, planes, helicopters, even farm equipment and war time battle machines such as tanks and military aircraft, first gained popularity during the early 1900s, when a British toy manufacturer named William Britain patented the diecasting system for mass producing these toys from lead.

Many of these early collectibles, bearing the brand name W. Britain, have become valuable antiques. The 1940’s and 50’s are considered to be the golden era for die-cast collectibles made of lead. However, in 1966, lead production was banned due to health and safety concerns. Plastics and metal alloys became the new material for producing collectible toys. Collecting these contemporary designs became all the rage during the 1980s and 90s.

In recent years, the internet has been a driving force in the proliferation of clubs for diecast model collectors, as well as communities, discussion groups, blogs, auctions, and on-line gallery websites devoted to documenting and sharing history, stories and information about these meaningful miniatures.

Today, clubs for diecast model collectors can be found around the world. Whether you collect toy soldiers, classic dream cars, airplanes, miniature military models, contemporary plastic figures, or rare antique items, there is undoubtedly a club to satisfy every collector.
