How to choose jeans that are perfect for you

Many people think that a pair of jeans is a pair of jeans, but take it from someone who’s father always made him wear the blue light specials, that’s simply not the case.  It’s not always about jeans being cheap or expensive though.  There’s denim out there that seem to be the perfect jeans, but they aren’t perfect for you.  In today’s world, there’s no end to how women’s clothing varies and jeans are no exception.  You need to choose the ones that say “you.”

The Color

These days jeans come in every color imaginable.  They can be white, black, red, pink, green or even purple.  Sometimes they’re a combination of several colors, but there is one single color that’s always acceptable.  Blue.

Any other color must be carefully coordinated with the rest of an outfit, but blue jeans have become so ubiquitous in our society that they are acceptable with any other color combination in an outfit.  Unless you have a special reason to buy jeans in another color, stick with blue.  It’s always a safe bet because it goes with anything.

The Designer

Personally, I’m most comfortable in Levis than anything else and I’m wearing those even as I write this, but I realize that ladies will often want to be a bit more fashionable than I tend to be, and thank goodness for that!  There are many, many designer labels out there these days and no one designer or company seems to rule the blue the way Jordache and Chic did back in the eighties.

It’s partially a matter of taste.  Usually women and girls tend to choose a brand name based on the store it comes from, rather than a designer.  Be it Aeropostale, Abercrombie, Hollister or some other popular store, it’s usually the store’s name that counts these days when it comes to a name on fashionable jeans.

Style

While the great majority of jeans these days are still blue, the styles vary greatly.  Do you want relatively white bread jeans that are “just jeans,” do you want to stand out a little bit, or do you want to stand out a lot?  That really depends on where you are.  When you’re in class, you do want to stand out a bit, but when you’re at a dance or a club, you want to really shine.

Jeans can come with varied areas of fading, fashionably shabby tears and rips, inner or outer patches in strategic locations, sprayed on colors, rivets, studs or even gemstones.  Each one has a way of setting a person apart and saying something about them.  About who they are or how they want people to see them.

The Cut

Now we’re getting down to the nitty gritty.  Let’s face it, when it really comes down to it, it’s all about the butt.  Yep, I said it.  The derriere is really the bottom line here, pun intended.  This is where choosing the right jeans for you becomes crucial.

There can be no doubt that certain jeans look great on one person and horrible on another.  Going back to the eighties examples of Chic and Jordache, the cut would shape the butt so differently that it would make a person look like someone else entirely depending on which jeans you wore.  Jordache looked great on some women, but Chic looked much better on others.

There are so many different brands out there these days that I won’t get into this one or that one, but the same truths remain today.  Different designers use cuts that complement this or that body style.

You need to try different jeans on and see if they’re the perfect jeans for you.  Have someone with you and get their opinion while you’re at it.  If all else fails, ask a guy.  Don’t listen to what he says, pay attention to how he says it, his body language, his physical reaction and where his eyes go, because in the end (yeah, yeah. I know.) that’s really what it’s all about, isn’t it?
