Find peace and relaxation at home

Find peace and relaxation at home

Being a wife and new mom, I average about 4 hours of sleep per night. My days are spent carrying around a heavy infant, hunching over a changing table, staring at a computer screen and ruining my hands by constantly submerging them in dishwasher washing bottles. I often fantasize about a trip to a day spa that includes sitting in a pristine room with my eyes closed, enjoying soft music and scented candles. Then I remember: day spas cost money and I have to buy diapers! In today’s economy, most women who long for a bit of peace can’t afford to look much further than their own house, which is why finding a way to achieve relaxation at home is important.

At my baby shower, as I opened up onesies, receiving blankets, diapers and other baby essentials, I ran across a package that contained scented candles, lotions, bubble bath and a bath robe. One of my friends, who is the mother of three young children, gave it to me. When my son arrived, I was truly thankful for the only baby shower gift that was actually for me. My friend knew that those days of escaping to the spa were long gone. It dawned on me that from now on, I had to find relaxation at home, not within the walls of an expensive spa.

Whether you’re a stay at home mom or a working mother, making your home a more relaxing place will help you decompress and unwind without the hefty price tag of a spa. By using these simple tips, you can make relaxation at home easy.

– Cover your bed in a pair of new, pure white sheets and spritz with aromatherapy spray or your favorite perfume/cologne. Fresh white sheets are reminiscent of spa massage tables and can help you get a long and relaxing night’s sleep.

– Turn off the lights and light a few strategically placed candles. If you’ve got little ones running around, flameless candles are a safe alternative that will work just as well.

– Create a relaxing playlist that includes your favorite artists or sounds of nature can help you tune out the rest of the world and make relaxation at home easy.

– Plan an at home spa day with your girlfriends. In order to reduce your costs, plan it “pot luck” style by asking each one of your friends to bring a different spa item. Be sure to include face masks, nail polish and moisturizers. Ask everyone to dress in pajamas and put on a chick-flick to set the mood.

Being a woman in today’s world can be stressful. Regardless of whether you’re a wife, mother, CEO or all of the above, it’s important to remember that we all deserve a day of relaxation every once in a while. Taking the time to center yourself and relax can work wonders in rejuvenating your mind, body and soul.
