Everyone in the retail community loves when people go shopping.
Luckily, spending money in retail stores has seemingly been ingrained in the American psyche since the turn of the century. Even past presidents have gotten in on the act, with George W. Bush once famously commenting that the American people should go out and shop.
Frequenting department stores, malls, boutiques, catalogs and online shops has been such a part of the American culture, we’re even able to bring you the top ten quotations about shopping.
10. Makeup
“I always say shopping is cheaper than a psychiatrist.”
Tammy Faye Bakker, the woman made famous by her cheating, preacher husband is the one who said this quote. It certainly isn’t hard to imagine that Tammy enjoyed some retail therapy now and then. It’s also not hard to imagine the stores she frequented the most were those that sold makeup by the bulk.
9. Exclusivity
“People will buy anything that is one to a customer.”
Author Sinclair Lewis said this particular quote in what can only be described as his less than flattering opinion of consumers. His comment of course was centered on the gullibility of the public, and that if someone declared something rare, it was automatically more popular.

Perfect 10 actress Bo Derek is the one who uttered this gem. The actress has been working for several decades now and we’re fairly certain she can afford to frequent whichever fancy boutiques wherever she’d like.

This quote is one of the best because the speaker (Paris Hilton) demonstrated in one fell swoop that the rich really aren’t like other people.

This quote comes from the lovable Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. A rather large part of Carrie’s life centered around clothes and shoe shopping and she certainly wasn’t afraid to admit it.

Famed therapist Joyce Brothers spun this little ditty. The saying is becoming more true for Americans all the time.
4. Appearances are everything
“Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like.”
World famous actor Will Smith came up with this one. We assume he knows what he’s talking about considering he’s surrounded by the uber wealthy and the Hollywood elite.
3. Dream big
“Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.”
English author Oscar Wilde coined this particular phrase and it certainly seems as though plenty of people have adopted that philosophy.
2. Bargains
“A bargain is something you can’t use at a price you can’t resist.”
American humorist and writer Franklin P. Jones hit this particular quote right on the nose.

Another American author and humorist Bill Bryson said this depressing, funny and 100 percent accurate comment. It is just a bit sad how important the local shopping mall has become to our day-to-day lives.
