A list of the top ten reasons time fliesContributed by Info Guru Aurora LaJambre

Even if we lived to be 200 years old, many of us would still agree that life is too short.

Time flies whether we’re having fun, traveling or simply going about our routines. We rely on time to structure our lives, but we have no control over it. Ask it to slow down and the days seem the pass ever quicker.

Here are the top ten reasons time flies.

10. There’s always something new to try

New businesses open their doors every day. Inventors invent new technology, bookstores shelve new books and chefs whip up a brand new dish. Time flies because nothing in the world ever truly stands still for long.

9. The world is big and we are small

Raise your hand if you made a list of places to visit before you turned 20 then 30 then 40/50 and on. The world is filled with so many fantastic places to see that it’s impossible for most of us to see them all in a lifetime. But we can try. This shows time flying can be a good thing because it gives us the extra push to get out the door and see as much of the world as we can.

8. Busy, busy, busy

In order to savor time, you have to slow down every now and then. The irony is that busyness goes hand-in-hand with living a full life complete with career, family, activities and passions. Time flies because we want to do so many things and they all take time. We can’t capture every moment, but digital cameras and scrapbooking helps make the best memories last.

7. We lose ourselves

You know you’re doing something you love when morning turns to night and you’ve no idea where the day went. These moments of being completely absorbed in an activity are often when we create our best work. This applies to everyone from artists and crafters, to chefs, writers and gardeners. No matter how you look at it, this is time well spent.

6. Farmers steal it

Daylight Savings Time, also referred to as Summer Time, steals a whole hour in the spring. Granted, we get this hour back in the fall, but that’s poor consolation when our trusty alarm clock goes off a full hour too soon. You can fend off the grumpies by looking on the bright side: we get a full extra hour of sunlight during the warmest, liveliest months of the year.

5. To keep you on your toes

The phrase ‘life is short’ is often accompanied with a notion to ‘do what you love’. Time flies to keep us on our toes so we take more risks. So we don’t put off for tomorrow what we can do today. So that when we have the chance to leap, and someone whispers ‘now or never’, off we go.

4. They grow too fast

Time flies at lightning speed once babies enter the picture. In a blink they go from warm slobbering infants to chatty Patties who can run faster than you. They outgrow their adorable baby clothing before you get to see them in the same outfit twice. Adults aspire to take in every moment of a young child’s life while still balancing real world responsibilities, but this only makes the time vixen soar quicker.

3. No watch

Without a watch everything we do takes a little longer because what feels like 5 minutes is really 20. A great statement-making luxury watch is perhaps our last defense against time getting away from us completely. Unlike smart phones and other gadgets we haul around, a watch sits unobtrusively on the wrist. A quiet accessory that gently reminds us the clock is always ticking.

2. Blame it on the routine

We fall into routines. Wake up, sleep and eat at the same times. Go to the same basic places at the same basic times each week. Scheduling errands and meals helps keep things on track, but it also prevents fun detours. Seasonal things like hay rides in the fall, a summer beach day, cherry blossoms in spring and sleigh rides in winter are all things we just have to break up the routine to do before time flies away.

1. Sleepy time

Doctors say we should get at least 8 hours of sleep a day. That’s 1/3 of every day, which equals 1/3 of our lives. The truth is that time flies because we just don’t have as much of it as we think we do. We lump our sleepy time with our waking hours when we set goals and that creates unrealistic expectations of the future. Enjoy sleep, but don’t presume you have a talent for sleep working.
