stay cozyContributed by Info Guru Terri Wallace

With winter blowing in, and the snow shovels waiting expectantly, it is important to have a plan for staying warm and cozy if you plan on enduring the winter chill.

So dig out your winter woolens and then check out these top ten items to add to your collection of all things cozy and comfortable.

10. Thick Terry Robe

There is nothing colder than that moment when you turn off the shower and throw back the shower curtain. Fortunately, if you own a super thick terry robe the torturous chill need only last a moment. When the promise of warmth is just a moment away, it makes it a little easier to turn off the hot water and start your day.

9. Cardigans

Cardigans are one of those ingenious clothing items that allow you to extend your fall wardrobe into winter. Slip a warm cardigan over a thin blouse and envelope yourself in warmth. Cardigans also allow you to keep the thermostat set just a bit lower this winter, thereby forgoing that age old argument over thermostat control; cardigans just may save your budget and your marriage this winter!

8. Socks

Socks

Cold feet are miserable. Rather than suffer in silence, plan on stocking up on some warm woolen socks to keep your toes toasty this winter. Save the cute, strappy heels for spring; winter demand boots and wool socks … if you hope to fend away frost bite and keep all ten toes, that is.

7. Scarves and Shawls

Scarves and Shawls

Scarves and shawls are under-appreciated additions to your collection of cozy attire. Scarves and shawls can transform an outfit, adding elegance and mystery, or a pop of color on a drab, overcast day. Wrap yourself in warmth and add drama? What’s not to like?

6. Hats

Winter is the perfect time to bring back hats. Whether you prefer felt hats, faux fur hats, newspaper boy hats, berets, or woolen caps, when the wind chill drops, make sure to reach for a hat when you brave the elements. Not only will a hat keep your head warm, but it can also prevent, or conceal, hair ravaged by wet snow and driving winds!

5. Fleece Vest

Another way to stay cozy is to add on the layers! A simple vest can add style and warmth to an outfit. Add a fleece vest over a long sleeve shirt, and top it with a scarf, for a stylish and toasty winter ensemble.

4. Wool Coat

Wool Coat

Never underestimate the appeal of a simple woolen coat. There is a simple reason that all of the old black and white movies seem to star at least one ruggedly handsome actor, or an aloof and mysterious actress donning a wool coat: wool coats are timeless and provide proven warmth against winter’s chill. Reclaim the elegance of a bygone era with a classic wool coat. Perhaps you will never be a lonely gumshoe, or a bighearted heiress … but you can look like one.

3. Flannel Pajamas

Flannel Pajamas

Save the satin and lacy nightgowns for summer. This winter, heat things up with some flannel pajamas. Leaving a little something to the imagination can be a very provocative thing; besides, there is nothing sexy about shivering.

2. Thermals

Thermals

For over a century, long underwear was the nemesis of American children everywhere. They were bulky and stifling and scratchy. But thermals have come a long way—they are lighter, more breathable, and provide unmatched warmth when layered under your winter wear.

1. Slippers

Slippers

When your feet are cold, it is difficult to feel warm enough. Keep your tootsies toasty with some slippers to keep your feet cozy and comfortable. Keep a pair at home, a pair in the car, and a pair stashed in your desk at work! Slip your feet out of damp winter boots and into instant coziness.
