new diet foodsContributed by Info Guru Paul Seaburn

The diet food aisle in my favorite grocery store needs to go on a diet – it keeps getting bigger and bigger!

I’m just kidding – we all need to lose some weight according to the leading health experts. The big surprise is that some of the new diet foods being touted as great weight-loss and fat-busting selections are actually traditional foods we should be eating more of. Lose a few pounds by walking up and down the grocery store aisles with this list of new diet foods.

10. Eggs Won’t Make You Humpty Dumpty

Eggs no longer have that ‘bad for your cholesterol’ reputation. Nutritionists now say that two eggs for breakfast give you lean protein and keep you feeling full all day. Check out the new eggs with extras – farmers are adding things like canola oil, alfalfa and rice bran to organic hen feed to enrich eggs with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E.

9. You CAN Eat The Whole Bag

100-calorie snacks

Cookies, cakes, chips and other snack foods packed in 100-calorie bags are the new way to diet by limiting your portions and eliminating binge snacking. Looks for whole grains as the primary ingredient and you’ll get extra fiber to fill you up while satisfying your sweet tooth.

8. Fast AND Healthy

fast food

Fast food restaurants have finally wised up and started offering selections with healthy ingredients and smaller portion sizes. Subway has plenty of subs with low fat and low calories. Taco Bell is offering Fresco-style items with less than 180 calories and even McDonald’s has a grilled chicken salad that’s only 290 calories – just remember to skip the dressing on the salads and the mayo and cheese on the sandwiches.

7. The Greeks Know Their Yogurt

greek yogurt

Lowfat and nonfat plain Greek yogurt fills you up with calcium while slowing the production of cortisol, a hormone that contributes to belly fat. The Greek style is thicker and has a richer flavor that may take some getting used to, so add fresh fruit or a little honey.

6. Kiwi Helps Your Exercising

Kiwi

When you think of vitamin C you normally think of oranges, but one large kiwi contains fiber plus more than a day’s quota of vitamin C. New studies confirm that adding more vitamin C to their diet helps exercisers burn up to four times as much fat.

5. Beans For Breakfast

Edamame

Edamame, which are green soybeans still in the pod, provide 17 grams of protein per cup. Have some with your breakfast or for a mid-morning snack – researchers have found that eating soy protein in the morning helps you burn 70 more calories a day.

4. The Other Red Meat

lamb chop

For a diet alternative to red meat, try lamb. It contains vitamin B, protein, zinc and conjugated linoleic acid which helps your body burn fat rather than storing it. Lamb chops on the grill are a quick and healthy summer dinner.

3. One Apple Is Good But Three Are Better

apples

A Brazilian study found that dieters who ate three apples a day lost more weight than those who didn’t. They fill you up while packing nutrients, vitamin C, beta-carotene, fiber and antioxidants in an handy and tasty snack. Not to mention that thing about keeping doctors away.

2. Plenty Of Soup For You

soups

‘Seinfeld’ made not having soup funny, but dieters will find that adding healthy soup to a meal will help them lose weight faster. Studies have found that eating two servings of broth-based soups with vegetables, beans and whole-grain noodles fills you up fast and can nearly double your weight loss.

1. Go Wild With Salmon

wild salmon

The controversy over farm-raised fish rages on, but there’s no argument that wild salmon is a healthy source of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids that help your body burn fat. Eating wild salmon two to four times per week has been proven to reduce fat, so spend a few more bucks and you’ll lose a lot more butt.
